The "Red Line" is the first line and constitutes the backbone of a modern mass transit system planned for the Tel Aviv metropolitan area.
This line will pass through the busiest area of the metropolitan and will serve the largest number of passengers compared to the other future lines planned to be built as  part of this mass transportation system.
The Red Line project is the most complex infrastructure project in Israel.

Description of the red line:

  • The line will continue to "Arlozerov train station" along "Petach Tikva road" and near "Azrieli center", continue to south of the "Kirya", "Menashya", "Jerusalem blv." In Jaffa and will end in the south of "Bat Yam" city.
  •  The line will be 22 Km long, 10 Km of them underground from "Menashya" / "Nev'e Zedek" in Tel Aviv and all through to "Ge'a intersection".
  •  The red line will comprise 33 stops, 23 of them will be at grade and 10 of them underground.
  • The line frequency :
    •  In the underground section (between Menashya to Petach Tikva -Gea intersection) – at peak hours – minimum 3 minutes frequency is required.
    •  At grade – at peak hours – minimum 6 minutes frequency is required.
    •  At Off-Peak during required service hours, the required service frequency will be reduced.
On December 31st 2006, the Inter Ministerial Tender Committee declared MTS as the concessionaire to the red line. The chosen concessionaire will plan, construct and maintain the system for a concession period of 32 years. At the end of that term, the system and its infrastructure will be transferred to the State.
The concession agreement between MTS and the State was signed on May 28th 2007, and currently the concessionaire is in the early planning stage and in the middle of the financial closing stage.
